Missing the Kitty Cats

(Post by Bacon)
Sadly Alisha and I will not be able to take our cats with us to Taiwan. Taiwan is a "rabies free" country and America is not. This means that if we did take the cats, they would need to be quarantined for no less than 21 days in Taiwan and have a long series of tests performed on them. So we felt it would be selfish of us to take them with.

Alisha and I are very much cat people. We love Tinkerbell and Mayor McCheese so much and will miss them every day while we're gone (probably more so than any of you peoples). I made this short video to remember them while we're away. I basically ripped off the Sarah McLachlan commercial.

We Have Jobs

(Posted by Bacon)
Alisha and I received our second job offer from the recruiting agency (Reach to Teach) and it's perfect so we accepted it. The name of the school is Uncle Sam American School and it's located about 40 minutes outside of Taipei. Besides having the most stereotypical name ever it seems pretty cool. Here is a link to their website.

The recruiting agency gave me the e-mail address of one of the current ESL teachers (Melanie) and she was able to tell us a lot about the school. I was also fortunate enough to find a blog by a girl named Jenny Reynen who taught at Uncle Sam American School a year ago. She was also able to give me a lot of good information regarding the school. We feel lucky to have two outside sources that can give us candid information. Otherwise we would be depending on the word of the school and recruiting agency.

Here is a list of things that we love about the school:
1. Alisha and I will be working at the same school.
2. We will be teaching different ages at different times of the day.
3. There are always 7 ESL teachers at this school so we won't be the only foreigners.
4. The school itself is actually very nice and it looks beautiful.
5. We will not only teach english, but other subjects like P.E.
6. We get 8 to 10 days of paid vacation.
7. After 6 months we have a performance review and can receive a pay raise.

The only bad thing is that they need us to arrive April 1st, so we had to change our plane tickets. We will now be leaving Wisconsin on March 30th at 7:30 pm. We will arrive in Los Angeles at 10:00 pm and have a 3 hour layover. This is actually kind of convenient because it gives me time to say goodbye to my family in LA before leaving. Our flight to Taipei will be almost 14 hours and we will arrive at 6:25 am the next day.

More info to come...

Welcome

(Post by Bacon)
Alisha and I decided that we should create a blog for our family and friends to see while we're away in Taiwan. On this blog we will post photos, videos, and stories from our experiences in Taiwan. So if you're crying yourself to sleep at night missing us, just come to this blog and read about all the fun we're having without you.

-Update on our trip-
We bought our tickets and will be leaving April 8th. When we arrive we will be signing a year long contract with a school and getting situated.
